About Us

Motcombe Garden Bowls Club is situated in the delightful old town area of Eastbourne, East Sussex.

We are affiliated to Bowls England, The E.B.A, E.W.B.A, S.C.B.A, and S.C.W.B.A

The current membership stands at around 70 full membersand 12 associate members, with life members for services rendered to the club.
We are a club formed in 1910 and have celebrated our centenary. Our notable games  included matches against a Bowls England side in early May and matches against both the Mens and Ladies of the Sussex County Bowels Association as well as Chelsea Pansioners.

We have a new clubhouse, completely rebuilt and opened in 2000 ,with the aid of a lottery grant and much fundraising by jumble sales, boot fairs and club events.

We have four rinks which are the envy of many in the town, with a small but well equipped club house. We have a full liquor licence and refreshments such as tea and coffee are always available. Each member is provided with a key and this enables them to set up a rink for practise or a club competition at a time to suit them.

We welcome new members and we have a full calender of club competitions for all levels including novices. In addition, many members compete in the local open competitions in Eastbourne, Bexhill and surrounding towns.

For those who wish to "have a try at the game" we have  many experianced members willing to give up their time to help new bowlers.

A very good web site to visit to learn more of the story of bowls and what it entails is to be found at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/kenanderson/startbowls/

A roll-up rink is available every morning for members and their guests and is  bookable for the afternoon sessions when there is no club match on.

In addition we have a very active Match Secretary who arranges away matches, touring teams and club away breaks. Our 100th anniversary season in 2010 was very busy, with  matches against the E.B.A, The Sussex Bowls Association etc.as well as barbecues, fish and chip nights, fun days and more wonderful friendship.
